Considering the fact that they all don't remember much of who they are why would you expect much character depth?

Anyway this film was meant to be an allegory and this premise goes back to the 30s.

Couldn't agree more. You summed it up exactly the way I would have. I think it's a kind of cruel equal-and-opposite-reaction thing this series has made me privy to. Every ounce of happiness I've felt has been equalled only by the sadness that we won't be getting anymore. No more movies, no more books - no more magical happenings in a wonderfully literary and cinematic world that is so fully realized it makes you wonder why it isn't real. And behind it all was a single mother who seriously contemplated suicide during the darkest part of her difficult life. She's singlehandedly introduced a world of 21st century kids to the oft-unheard-of gift that is Optional Reading (you know, where you actually want to read something and chose to do so), and for that she's a kind of savior of the literary world. More than that, though, she's a creator of the most crucial kind: a beacon of solid, singular light that may well spark the sort of creativity in young people's minds which could, one day, lead to the next Harry Potter. Thanks, JK. You made my decade.

I guess I could see what you mean. But I think my reasoning is the fact that they did it to make sure the story was told on the off chance this didn't do well. It's good to see that it didn't drop terribly this weekend though and went to second place. Really hoping we see another.

you know Sean, i think you are being just a little too hard on these characters. let us remember that they are teenagers first then mutants. to just dismiss Raven and Hank as depressed because they are blue is very short sighted, i think. to me, this movie really represents what it was like going through my teenage years, and all the changes that were going on, physically, socially, mentally, and the hard times that can be caused by these. i will agree that to approach the X-Men in the 60's and not really explore a story line of racial equality is a bit odd, but to me the move more approached the mutants as more of a coming of age. You also seemed to find it odd that Angle would not like people staring at her yet she would be a stripper, and i think that being damaged as she is, taking a job where men not only stare at her, but drool over her, makes since. She has a power over these men, kind of like, "if they are going to stare at me, i will give them a good reason to stare." it is almost like a, "Fuck you" to these men, if miss guided.
personally i loved this movie, and my main concerns at the continuity errors that it has created with the rest of the films. the fact that in X2, a much older Xavier is walking with a much older Lehnsherr to meet Jean Grey, and how Xavier knows where Lehnsherr gets his helmet in this film, yet in the fist X-Men he implies that to Wolverine that he doesn't know how Magneto has blocked his telepathy. these actually concern me more. i thought most of the characters had depth and i was emotionally attached to many of them by the end of the film. i give it 4.5 stars.
P.S. also, that fact that the only black mutant is the first one killed does seem a bit cliche to me, anyone else notice that?

Since its garnering such good reviews, I think it could be possible for there to be a sequel...it depends, I think, on the international box office. I'm very surprised they made Xavier paralyzed at the end of this one...I would've thought they'd want him to not be paralyzed yet if they were gonna make a sequel, ya know?

Thanks for the kind words on my blog! You know, your review is really fair as well and I get a lot of your points as well. I think as a fan of the comics and being burned so many times over the series, I went in expecting the worst. The 60's setting really was something that just worked incredibly well for the movie with the paranoia of the Cuban Missile crisis and the idea of change in the world. I really enjoyed the major players, but the supporting cast was weaker then I would have liked. I really dislike January Jones, she's a stilted actress and always has been. I wish they would quit giving her roles...But the movie isn't doing great at the box office so we may not be seeing a second film I fear...
